Advaita Death Doula Online Training

A 60 hour on-line training for yoga teachers and therapists, chaplains, hospice care workers, or anyone who wants to bring both deep presence and sound practical tools to those at end of life.

The course consists of 13 online zoom calls of either 2.5 or 3 hours.
Before each class students receive a reminder about the class and a summary of what will be covered during the session. Students don't have to make all the live sessions, but should plan on about 80% of the live sessions in order to receive the certificate. Usually people don't want to miss them! All sessions are recorded for those days when there is a conflict.

After each session students receive copy of the recording, a summary of points and resources that were covered including lots of links, and "questions for consideration." These questions are also on a google doc that is shared with the cohort. They are easy reflection questions designed to keep you connected with the course and the material between sessions.

When the course is over, students who have completed the coursework receive a certificate of completion for 60 hours of learning. You will also have access to all of the links, recordings and google doc on a password protected page on this website for a year after and will be invited to join a once monthly online meet-up to connect with others who have taken the course to develop a network, hear what people are doing, ask questions and receive ongoing support and mentorship.

The course total is 1525.00 if paid by check or Zelle. For any other payment option, the student agrees to pay any fees incurred.

“For me, and from the perspective of having been a hospice nurse in various roles (admissions, on-call, bedside Inpatient) there's a huge difference in what it means to provide care from the vantage point of working within the limitations of a system versus the freedom to provide individualized support in a multifaceted way and without "the organization" having a say. In addition, it was my experience that the organizations aren't as interested in offering the healing modalities associated with yogic teachings and philosophy (probably because it isn't understood on that level). As a nurse, I tried to bring simple yoga practices to the staff (who definitely wanted it) but I ran into so much red tape that it never happened.

In Bedside Yoga, I learned a great deal about myself and about how I could go deeper in not just providing support, but facilitating the space for healing during the most trying times.

What was most profound for me though, was Molly's unique experience and perspective as both a provider of bedside yoga and as a caregiver and one who is grieving. She taught me things I never learned in my 5 years in hospice. Little details that are easily missed by busy staff and other grieving family members. I don't think there's another training quite like hers and I'm a much better person for having said yes to it.”

The Origins & Intentions of Bedside Yoga

Bedside Yoga was originally borne out of the Grief and Loss classes offered at The Samarya Center. It occurred to us early on that if we were working with people who were in bereavement for a loved one, then it made sense to extend our reach to the time before the person died, and to extend our offering to the person who was at end of life.

This training is for anyone who is interested in the Death Doula or Death Cafe movements, for anyone who wants to bring a deep spiritual presence to the end of life journey, or who wants to explore the whole process of death and dying, including practical matters and family dynamics and systems.

The training is a total of 60 hours of combined online and self-study that can be applied as IAYT continuing education, but more importantly will prepare you for the experience of death and dying – for your own loved ones, for relative strangers, and for yourself.

Hours are one Tuesday and one Thursday evening, and one Sunday morning per month, for three months. There will be additional required reading as well as self-directed study and group connection through a password protected page on the website.
